Ioan Aurel Muresan – Signs of the wall : curated by Andrei Jecza

15 February - 15 April 2023 Jecza Projects
Overview
The cycle “Signs of the Wall” (1985-1989), exhibited for the first time, is both an artistic and human testimony to a historical time whose desperate pulse was captured by the painter Ioan Aurel Mureșan, up until the final moments of the communist regime. The works of Muresan explore painting from the materialist angle of neo-expressionism, marked by savage fervour and the force of a sombre gesturalism. The painting expresses an awareness of a consubstantiality with the primary universe, of an identification between the vital energies of the cosmos and an ardent self that expresses itself through colour, raw material and a maximum freedom of treatment of the figurative.
